Kull, a barbarian, and exile of Atlantis that is later to become Valusia’s most fabled King, is often cited as a Conan prototype and literary forerunner – which is indeed true as, ironically, the last Kull story – “By This Axe I Rule!” was later rewritten as “The Phoenix on the Sword” which is both the first written and first published Conan adventure.
